There’s something special and memorable about most of the larger resort hotels in Hawaii. Yes, they have spas. Spas are the “in” thing in resorts these days. If you’ve been to Hawaii and stayed at an Outrigger, you haven’t been to a true resort yet. Many will remember the opulence of the Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island, or the great beach and water slides of the Grand Wailea on Maui. Hawaii has plenty of great resorts? What’s your favorite?
Is it the Lodge at Koele on the island of Lanai? It could be. Of course, if you stayed there you had to enjoy quiet, enjoy the rain, and enjoy more food than you thought you could eat (what else is there to do on Lanai but eat; not many skinny women live there).
The Hilton Waikoloa has the motorboats and the canal that runs from one end of the property to the other. For diversion, there’s a modern mono-rail, too. You’ll need something besides your feet as the Hilton resort is huge, spreadout, with plenty to see.
For those who don’t want to go far and need pampering there’s the pamperingest place ever on the Big Island; Four Seasons Hualalai. Hmmmmm. Nice.
Hmmmmm. Pricier than nice.
Maui seems to have the most resorts and hotels on the list, and with good reason. Outside of Waikiki, Maui is the next top tourist destination.
One Oahu resort that didn’t make my list is the JW Marriott at Ihilani. I haven’t been there for more than dinner. Nice place. To make my list you’ll need to pamper me and I haven’t been pampered enough. Yet.
