A friend has sent you a link to the following article: http://hawaiicam.com/index.php/hawaiicam/comments/94/ Hawaii’s “local” cuisine is as varied as our island culture. Except there’s not so much culture when you eat local. Loco moco. Zippy’s. Kalua pig and lau lau. Two scoop rice. Macaroni salad. Local grinds. What’s your favorite local place and local plate. Sound off with the Top Local Restaurant Poll… Is Sam Choy’s really “local” food? Most folks wouldn’t say so. Certainly “local” wouldn’t be applied to Alan Wong’s, or Russel Siu, or Roy Yamaguchi. Hey, those folks are chefs. I don’t think you can get macaroni salad at those places. Local food is “grinds.” It’s what we like when we’re empty (although some of us don’t ever appear to get really “empty”, yeah?). Local food is a plate lunch or a bento. Rice? For sure. Maybe macaroni salad? Mostly. It’s food so everyone has their favorite. I’ve listed a handful and a variety of “local” restaurants so you can choose the top local place for local foods.
