A friend has sent you a link to the following article: http://hawaiicam.com/index.php/hawaiicam/comments/67/ Isn’t it remarkable how time flies? We already have three Jurrasic Park movies and still can’t get enough of dinosaurs. How else do you explain the popularity of Anna Nicole? Here’s a way to visit Jurrasic Park via horse or horsepower… …at popular Kualoa Ranch on Oahu’s windward side. Ranches in Hawaii are remarkably similar to ranches anywhere else. Hawaii has mountains, plains, streams, rain, drought, desert, cattle, and dinosaurs. Well, the dinosaurs were animated in Jurrasic Park, but much of the scenery was filmed on Oahu at Kualoa Ranch and on Kauai. Assuming you’re bored with scantily clad young girls in bikinis or tanned and muscled surfers on the beach in Waikiki, here’s an opportunity to do something totally different. Look for dinosaurs on Kualoa Ranch. Horseback or All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). Your choice. Of course, it won’t matter which you choose. You won’t actually see a dinosaur on Kukaloa Ranch. Jurrasic Park merely filmed the background scenery and computers placed the dinosaurs on the screen. It’s OK to dream, though. Regardless, Kualoa Ranch has some areas in the mountains that you’d swear had Velociraptors waiting in the jungle. Assuming you’re being chased by something so savage and carnivorous, I don’t know which would be best—being on horseback or riding an ATV. If you fell off the horse, it would be capable of running faster than you. In that case, the dinosaur would grab you first. On the other hand, an ATV can move rather quickly, although I suspect that a Tyrannosaurus Rex could reach down and snap you up—without grabbing the ATV. Whatever. Kualoa Ranch is a great visit. The ATV rides come in two flavors. One Hour and Two Hour. The longer ride allows you to visit the northern half of the Ranch and view the panoramic vista of the southern half. Think of it as a photo op for ATV folks—with helmets. All Terrain Vehicles have their own noisy panache. As exciting, and closer to nature, is the horseback rides at Kualoa. No, they’re not as quick as the ATV’s at full throttle, but they’ll get you there. More importantly, they’ll get you back. Kualoa is lush and green year round. The guides are experienced. So are the horses. Dress for changing weather. It will change. No umbrellas allowed..
