Ancient Hawaiians did not have much of a written language. Petroglyphs don't really count. Hawaii's history was recorded as dance. Hula dancers were expected to remember and repeat every dance step perfectly and under punishment of death. To change the dance was to change history. read more »
We clicked to find the best online sites about Hawaii; so you don't have to.
All things considered, you and I both know that to find decent web sites on the Internet these days you have to be patient and willing to click faster than Anna Nicole downs a chili hot dog. Here’s my view of the Top 4 Oahu destination web sites (with apologies to those sites that are better than these five but that I didn’t have time to click to). read more »

Once you get to the edge of the earth it's best to turn around and come back.
Maui is today’s focus on fun people and places. Assuming you have yet to venture to Maui’s hidden Hana (53 miles and about 4 hours from the airport), you’ll be impressed at how close you’ll be to the end of the earth. Almost. But not quite. Beyond Hana there's actually one more stop… read more »

Sands don't bark. Or do they? There's only one way to find out.
There’s a state law in Hawaii which says all the beaches (what we have more of in Hawaii than anything else except aging Democrats) belong to the people. So, all beaches have public access. No single individual or company can own a beach. If you can make it to the beach, you can sit on it. Getting there, of course, is your problem. read more »

This is the one small hotel that's much bigger when you see it from the beach.
Not just any pink. Screaming PINK pink. Flamingos will be jealous of a hotel this pink. Pink Lady went back to Japan because they weren’t as pink as this pink hotel. Better yet, it’s right on the beach so you can’t miss how pink it is next to the beige of the beach and the green of the mountains. read more »

Waikiki: The World's Longest Shopping Center; With A Beach.
Every great city with an ancient heritage has its story—and some dark secrets. Honolulu is no different. The ancient Hawaiians didn’t think much of what is now known as Honolulu and Honolulu Harbor. The water was too deep. They preferred the confines of what is now Waikiki—sunshine, less rain, mo bettah surfing. read more »

There are few places in the world where you can actually walk UP 13,000 feet.
What's the view like, that high up? Pretty awesome, actually. Today’s blisteringly informative piece is about Mauna Kea—Hawaii’s largest mountain, and considered by some to be the largest mountain in the world (depending on where you start measuring). The real treat for continuing to read is the link I’ll give you to a live cam view of the 13,000 foot summit. read more »
What does "local" mean? Plate lunch? Sushi? Rice? Fast Food?
Hawaii's "local" cuisine is as varied as our island culture. Except there's not so much culture when you eat local. Loco moco. Zippy's. Kalua pig and lau lau. Two scoop rice. Macaroni salad. Local grinds. What's your favorite local place and local plate. Sound off with the Top Local Restaurant Poll... read more »

Oahu is an island of neighborhoods. They're different. They shop differently.
Every major tourist destination has those special, off the beaten path places where the local folks shop. Trust me. They’re not spending much time in Waikiki’s shops or the Third Floor at Ala Moana Center (can you say, “Needless Markup? instead of Neiman-Marcus...). They’re shopping in the local neighborhoods because... read more »
