Everything in our island paradise is naturally beautiful. Even the ugly beaches.
Contrary to popular belief, not all beaches in Hawaii are created equal. Some beaches are downright terrible. Rocks. Lousy sand. Debris. So, what’s a hotel resort that stuck on a crummy beach supposed to do? Charge more money. read more »

Oahu is the third largest island in Hawaii. First, the Big Island, then Maui.
Here’s the challenge. Circle the island of Oahu. Do it in one day. Make all the stops. How many stoplights? Well, that depends on how far off the beaten path you go. It could be just a handful. It could be 80. Or more. read more »

Local or visitor, we all have a favorite place to go in Hawaii.
Hawaii's charm and beauty extends to tourists, visitors, and locals alike. We all have a favorite island, a "gotta go" place to visit, a well-remembered destination. Is it Maui? It is if you're from there? Big Island? There's a charm all it's own? What's your favorite Hawaii destination? read more »

Is there a place anywhere in Hawaii where the waves are good and no one surfs?

Hotels in Waikiki are similar to hotels in other resort and vacation areas. Lots of concrete. Plenty of people. Noisy. Traffic. Waikiki’s hotels are set along Pacific Ocean beaches. Remember Jack Lord and Hawaii 5-0? Which hotel shows up in the opening of Hawaii 5-0? What's it called today? read more »

Shrink the Grand Canyon, tow it from Arizona to Kauai. Call it Waimea Canyon. Why?
As the story goes, Sam Clemens (AKA Mark Twain) conned his way to a writing job in Hawaii. What a life, huh? He called Kauai’s Waimea Canyon “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific”. But he never visited Kauai, so the story goes. read more »

No island in the Hawaiian Archipelego is perfect. Maui is nearly perfect.
Grab an extra package of Certs (two, two mints in one), we’re heading to Maui again while listening to the beat of a different drummer on my iPod. 2,000 songs in your pocket—and not one of them says anything about Maui. So, with nary a to do, everything you didn’t want to know about Maui… read more »

The Garden Isle's Poipu Beach is known for shark bites and bar and grills.
A couple of photographs should be sufficient to describe the Garden Isle; Kauai. However, this is a web log, so photographs are used judiciously (I don’t have many) and I have an abundance (they’re free) of extra words; adjectives, adverbs, etc. Perfect for descriptions. And facts about good resorts and restaurants in the Poipu Beach area. read more »
