What you won't find at most McDonald's burger stands in Dallas, Texas.
McDonald’s is the place that makes folks smile. Their advertising even says they “love to see you smile.” Everywhere you go you’ll get fresh French fries, hot cheeseburgers, and ice cold Cokes. Hawaii McDonald’s, though, serve up Portuguese sausage, rice, and Chinese noodles. read more » Wednesday, March 24, 2010
What do you think? Texas? Montana? Alaska? Nope. We're Cattle Country.
If anything, cattlemen are a breed apart. Ornery. Contrarian. Hard workers. Astute business folks. Such was the case of John Palmer Parker of Newton, MA. He married a king’s daughter and grew the largest cattle ranch ever. In Hawaii. So, where's this large cattle ranch? read more » Tuesday, March 23, 2010
What do sun, sand, surf, and an oil refinery have in common?
Most of the known resorts on Oahu are in Waikiki. Hyatt Regency. Hilton Hawaiian Village. Halekulani. The best resort on the island isn’t in Waikiki at all. It’s the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa at Ko Olina. If it were not for that nearby oil refinery, the Ihilani would be the perfect resort. read more » Thursday, March 18, 2010
Restaurant owners beware: If I visit, you'll go out of business.
Normally, you don’t want to argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel. I suppose that’s how they buy ink over at the Honolulu Advertiser (Hawaii’s largest daily newspaper). Each year they rank Hawaii’s Best 150 Restaurants according to readers and Advertiser critics. Is there a better way? read more » Tuesday, March 16, 2010
Every guy knows that the penalty for bigamy is two wives. But 21? Is that 21 Queens?
It’s always sad to know your true love really loves another. The pain can be lessened somewhat by knowing that, of your love's 21 loves, you’re Numero Uno. Such was the life of a Queen in ancient Hawaii… read more » Thursday, March 11, 2010
Or, how I learned that poi and poipu are not the same thing. Really.
A couple of photographs should be sufficient to describe the Garden Isle; Kauai. However, this is a web log, so photographs are used judiciously (I don’t have many) and I have an abundance (they’re free) of extra words; adjectives, adverbs, etc. Perfect for descriptions. And facts about good resorts and restaurants in the Poipu Beach area. read more » Tuesday, March 09, 2010
Beaches in Hawaii are the best beaches in the world. Dr. Beach says so.
We’re not biased, or anything. The beaches in Hawaii really are among the best you’ll find anywhere. Of course, it’s always better to make it official. It’s official. Dr. Beach says Hawaii has the best beach this year. Where is it? read more » Thursday, March 04, 2010
Oahu is called "the gathering place". It is. For shoppers and shopping centers.
They gather. K-Mart, Macy's, Wal-Mart, CostCo, Sam's Club, soon Nordstrom's. Oahu is known as the Gathering Place. That’s primarily because pretty much everything is here. For shoppers, Oahu is THE place. NO other island in Hawaii offers the variety, selection, and low prices that you’ll find on Oahu. Our favorite places begin with… read more » Tuesday, March 02, 2010
You'd love a string of pearls, right? Try a string a day. Honest. Almost.
Waikiki is Hawaii’s most famous beach and home to more tourists than all other beaches put together. This pearl of a beach is really a string of beaches, pearls, if you will, that stretch for over 2 miles of glistening sand where you can frolic, bathe, gawk, and… read more »
