Name the largest mountain in Hawaii and you got it. It's that easy and that tall.
Quick. Name The Largest Mountain In The World. Everest? Nope? OK, can you name the largest volcano in the world? Mount Ranier in Washington state? Nope. That one is extinct. The largest mountain in the world is not Mount Everest and it’s 100 times larger than Mount Ranier. Can you name the mountain? read more » Wednesday, March 24, 2010
What do you think? Texas? Montana? Alaska? Nope. We're Cattle Country.
If anything, cattlemen are a breed apart. Ornery. Contrarian. Hard workers. Astute business folks. Such was the case of John Palmer Parker of Newton, MA. He married a king’s daughter and grew the largest cattle ranch ever. In Hawaii. So, where's this large cattle ranch? read more » Tuesday, December 29, 2009
With nude beaches and nearly nude bikinis, you'd think bird watching would be more fun.
Life should be that easy. Can you imagine the difficulty of bird watching while there’s a flowing volcano nearby? Remarkably, it works out quite well, thank you. First, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is loaded with exotic species of birds. Having the volcano nearby simply keeps you alert. read more » Tuesday, December 22, 2009
The Goddess Of Fire And Volcanoes in Hawaii. Not Your Ordinary Mother in Law.
As an ancient land made up of many cultures, Hawaii has a history somewhat unique to the rest of the Pacific. Hawaiian gods and goddesses are well known in local culture and stories. Around The World In 80 Days? Hawaii In 80-seconds. GO!
What, you say? It can’t be done? Well, we may have to leave out a view details, but Odds & Ends is just that—an 80-second look at, well, whatever we can cram into about 80-seconds (longer, if you’re a slow reader). Hit the stop watch… read more » Friday, September 18, 2009
See the Big Island. On foot? If you got a few years.
If you could take all the other islands in Hawaii and squeeze them together, they’d fit inside the Big Island and there’d be room left over. That’s how big the Big Island is. If you really want to see the Big Island there’s only two ways—up close and personal; on foot—and via helicopter. read more » Wednesday, August 19, 2009
You're looking for a hot vacation deal? Hawaii has the hottest. Really hot.
The Big Island of Hawaii is home to the island chain’s two largest peaks; Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Both tower above 13,000 feet. They’re cool. What’s hot is Hawaii’s active volcano, Kilauea. We're not talking 90-degrees and Kona winds. It's worse than West Texas. Almost... read more » Sunday, July 25, 2004
There are few places in the world where you can actually walk UP 13,000 feet.
What's the view like, that high up? Pretty awesome, actually. Today’s blisteringly informative piece is about Mauna Kea—Hawaii’s largest mountain, and considered by some to be the largest mountain in the world (depending on where you start measuring). The real treat for continuing to read is the link I’ll give you to a live cam view of the 13,000 foot summit. read more »

The average house price on Oahu is around $400,000. Yep. That's 400 of the thousand dollars.
What we need is new real estate. More real estate. Affordable real estate. As they say, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” New real estate is happening every day in Hawaii. No, it’s not draining a swamp and putting up a housing complex. This new real estate is 14,000 feet… read more »
