An old Maui friend combines elegance, youthful spirit, and fat women.
Maui has two luxurious coasts; Kaanapali to the West, Wailea to the South. While Kaanapali (say that real fast, three times) is open and spacious, the resorts of Wailea are snug, comfortable. The number of "fat women" statues will surprise even skinny folks. read more » Tuesday, March 23, 2010
What do sun, sand, surf, and an oil refinery have in common?
Most of the known resorts on Oahu are in Waikiki. Hyatt Regency. Hilton Hawaiian Village. Halekulani. The best resort on the island isn’t in Waikiki at all. It’s the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa at Ko Olina. If it were not for that nearby oil refinery, the Ihilani would be the perfect resort. read more » Friday, November 06, 2009
Everyone loves to read reviews of other people's reviews. Read these...
Frankly, it’s fun reading. There are plenty of web sites around that describe a destination or a hotel, and allow readers to submit their own review. Waikiki has plenty of hotels and plenty of reviews. Here are a few... read more » Friday, October 30, 2009
Once you've tasted a fine resort on Maui, the Hilo Hukilau becomes a faded memory.
I can’t picture Waylon Jennings staying at a Hyatt. The original Ramblin’ Man (may he rest in peace) would have been more comfortable at the Hilo Hukilau, although I’m sure he never stayed there. Fortunately, I’ve stayed many enjoyable nights at the Hyatts in Hawaii. Unfortunately, I spent a week one night at the Hilo Hukilau. read more » Sunday, August 08, 2004
What's the credit limit on your credit card? $1-million? You might need it.
The Big Island of Hawaii has some of the island’s least expensive hotel rooms. In days gone by it was the Hilo Hukilau where #### roaches doubled as slippers during the day. The Big Island also has some of the most expensive hotels. Starting at just $5,500 a night. read more »

This is a trivia piece, of course. Name the hotel used most often in Hawaii 5-0?
Hotels in Waikiki are similar to hotels in other resort and vacation areas. Lots of concrete. Plenty of people. Noisy. Traffic. Waikiki’s hotels are set along Pacific Ocean beaches. Remember Jack Lord and Hawaii 5-0? Which hotel shows up in the opening of Hawaii 5-0? What's it called today? read more »

Don't go to Lanai for the excitement, or the nightlife, or the nude beaches.
People would like to think that the island of Lanai is a snapshot of old Hawaii. It’s not. Old Hawaii was not acres of pineapple fields. Fortunately, that’s not the new Lanai, either. The old Hawaii wasn’t crowded with hotels and resorts. Neither is the new Lanai. In fact, there’s not much here. Not even a stop light. read more »

Cookies are big stuff these days. They can cost from $1 to $2 in Hawaii. Oh, so tasty.
The right hotel makes a good vacation great. A crummy hotel makes a great vacation less than good. How do you make a hotel stand out among the crowds of hotels in Waikiki? Cookies. read more »

Molokai is a place between Maui and Oahu. It's quiet. Very quiet. Amazingly quiet.
Did I mention how quiet it is on Molokai? Hey, by now, everyone knows. Life is mo-bettah on Molokai. Why? Wait. Where is Molokai? It’s one of the smaller islands in Hawaii. Real quiet out there. Sporting events are timed with a calendar. Once you’re there, where do you stay? read more »
