This course is considered one of the world's most challenging golf courses.
It’s more than possible that there’s a tougher golf course than the Ko’olau Golf Club on Oahu. It’s possible. It could happen. It’ll be on Jupiter. Maybe Neptune. Or Rigel 4. Perhaps Romulus. The Romulans look as if they’re up to a challenge. Not only is the Ko’olau Golf Club the most challenging—it may be the world’s most beautiful. read more » Friday, November 20, 2009
Was there art in Hawaii in ancient days? Depends on who's collecting
Yes, there was art in Hawaii before 1927. It just wasn’t all in one place. One of the Pacific’s leading art institutions is centered in the Pacific. Centered in Honolulu, to be specific. Centered on Beretania Street, to be specific. read more » Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Best Kaanapali Beach view is elsewhere; Lanai, Molokai, Sunsets, sand.
Kaanapali Beach on Maui’s west shore was once considered the best beach on the Valley Isle. Today, the best view of Kaanapali beaches is with your back to the beach. Why? Today, Kaanapali Beach is littered with… read more » Friday, November 13, 2009
It's the Makiki Valley Loop Trail. Bring your favorite fruit loops.
Hawaii has plenty of organizations whose primary mission is to save this part of the planet from ourselves. The Hawaii Nature Center is one such group. The part of Hawaii they plan to save is all about mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it won’t matter. read more » Tuesday, November 10, 2009
4 foot waves are fun, 8 foot waves are rough, 12 footers are dangerous...
"It was a dark and stormy night. A shot rang out. Then I remembered. Over a thousand years ago ancestors of Polynesian travelers created a new water sport called, “hee nalu.” Surfing. A ring shot me in the ear. I woke up." A 50 foot wave? Surfing? In your dreams, beach boy wannabe. Surfers in Hawaii and elsewhere sometimes catch 40 foot waves. It’s not really surfing in the traditional sense, though. read more » Friday, November 06, 2009
Everyone loves to read reviews of other people's reviews. Read these...
Frankly, it’s fun reading. There are plenty of web sites around that describe a destination or a hotel, and allow readers to submit their own review. Waikiki has plenty of hotels and plenty of reviews. Here are a few... read more » Friday, October 30, 2009
Once you've tasted a fine resort on Maui, the Hilo Hukilau becomes a faded memory.
I can’t picture Waylon Jennings staying at a Hyatt. The original Ramblin’ Man (may he rest in peace) would have been more comfortable at the Hilo Hukilau, although I’m sure he never stayed there. Fortunately, I’ve stayed many enjoyable nights at the Hyatts in Hawaii. Unfortunately, I spent a week one night at the Hilo Hukilau. read more » Friday, October 23, 2009
4,000 weddings performed on Maui? How many will touch?
Assuming they’re still marrying just two people per wedding, that’s also 4,000 weddings. And a lot of rice. However, this story is really about weddings on Maui from Romantic Maui Weddings and Honeymoons—4,000 couples since 1988. That’s 15 years. That’s 266 weddings a year. That’s a wedding a day, except on Wednesday and Thursday. read more » Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Someone answer the question: Why do Hawaii pineapples cost more than anywhere else?
Food in Hawaii is usually expensive—except for rice and certain local vegetables, more expensive than most other places in the US. Shopping for food, though, is pretty much the same all over. Until you start shopping for pineapple. Hawaii has some lip smacking pineapple even Colonel Sanders would prefer. read more »
